Purple Peace

The idea for this came out of thinking:

“What kind of tomatoes could encourage people to be peaceful and put aside their differences to cultivate great food together?”

It would be purple both because those are (in my opinion) the best tasting tomatoes (clear skinned and with the greenflesh gene in addition to the lycopene—> appears purple), and also because from a color-theory lens, purple is red and blue together, often the colors used to designate different sides. Here, it would represent the common ground, the shared heritage and shared humanity we all have. It would probably be potato-leaf because those seem to taste best and grow best, and it would need to be able to grow well and taste good to make it around the world and be actually grown. I think it would work well to start with Karma Purple because it’s a great potato-leaf purple tomato, and on the small side which is perfect for crossing with bigger purple heirlooms (and it’s a bit poetic too).

Then I thought, what if the tomato could actually look like a peace sign when cut into slices, is that even possible? How many would people have to grow to find a stable “peace sign” Purple Peace variety? I think it would be neat to try, just to see if it’s possible.
